Your day begins at 6:15am with a trip from Panama City to Colón on the historic train built in 1880 by a French company which was also building the Panama Canal. The train journey takes about an hour bringing us to Colón through the jungle; the Sovereign National Park which runs the length of the Panama Canal.
On our tour of Portobelo you will see the canons pointing towards the bay reflecting the importance of defense. Portobelo was attacked many times by pirates, including Henry Morgan. We will visit the ruins of the old colonial port, the place where the treasures were guarded and the Church of Portobelo where lies the miraculous Black Christ.
Portobelo is a sleepy town full of colonial history where you can feel transported in time.
