The excursion to the Barú Volcano National Park, guided by a naturalist expert is a unique opportunity to go hiking in the heart of the jungle.
The Barú Volcano National Park covers 14,300 hectares. The volcano has a height of 3,478 meters, being the highest point in Panama. On a clear day you can see both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea from the summit.
The Barú Volcano National Park includes a variety of climates and terrains. There are tropical mountainous forests and rainy mountainous forests. Around 250 species of birds have been observed in the park including the resplendent quetzal, the black-chested hummingbird, black-and-white warbler, yellow-thigh Finch and the woodpecker. The five largest cats live inside the park, including pumas and leopards as well as porcupines and other mammals.
Walking to the top of Barú Volcano is very popular, although you have to keep in mind that it is a serious excursion which will take all day. The walk is a constantly upwards hike for 13.5 kilometers, which usually takes 4-5 hours. On the way you will pass through shady forests, pastures of sheep and you will enjoy the incredible view of the valley.
You will have a box lunch during the excursion and will not return to the hotel until evening. Tour must be booked in advance.
